Jun 4, 2007 · The pisolitic (or so-called "algal") limestone characteristically occurs as a discontinuous zone of white to pink, large nodules of hard dense limestone (Pl. 1A). The zone is about 1 foot thick or less and is the topmost layer of the calcareous upper part of the Kimball Member. The oolitic and pisolitic Mn oxide shows a higher K 2 O content than the massive Mn oxide. In the oolitic and pisolitic Mn oxide, the primary Mn oxide mineral is cryptomelane, confirming a previous study by Zhao et al. .
